Firstly, because I so enjoyed chatting with these women and their ambition to open a Pop-Up foe Christmas... Secondly, the woman on the right had such a great smile but tensed as I was about to snap... Although we usually don't publish other people's pics... Luisa and I have an emotional attachment to Furla because to celebrate her Green Card I bought her a Furla tote in the late nineties. At the time she was the web designer for Bloomies and Furla was a new brand in NY. The evening of the day we bought the bag, I was with to met with Ron Frasch(rt.) and Malory Andrews to discuss a store visit she was planned to make to BG of HRH Princess Anne prior to a small dinner of senior New Yorkers on the yacht of the late Malcolm or his son Steve Forbes', mainly to discuss the work of Save The Children and other good causes, she supported...

During an aside from the main conversation, we were discussing British woolens when she told us that the mill that produces the goods for the Coldstream Guards' red tunics had been on the edge of the estate where she lives with her family since the late 1600's...

"Oh really Mam?" I said. "My father was a Coldstreamer""Jolly well done Robert" she replied as Colonel-in-Chief of the regiment. When Ron joined our conversation, asking "What's a Coldstreamer?""That's in-house-talk" the Princess said as she raised her white gloved hand in a "talk-to-the-hand" motion. I think she immediately realised she was being abrupt... Poor Ron, looked flabbergasted as he graciously accepted her manner and we all moved on...

Finally, I'd love to see that Furla skin bag done huge! with a snake-skin printed on diamond stamped leather, with a shiny plastic looking hand-finish... It could become an icon like Furla's jelly and candy ranges but aimed at very rich women around the world, the ladies-who-lunch. Perhaps Saks could commission three to be auction for charity and Ron could send one to the Princess to be auctioned by one of her charities. That way he could show her that there are no hard feelings on his side... But, I'm sure he is so busy he can hardly remember the day?

In NYC the Brits are known for for their press stunts... Often they sounded amusing, when watched at a safe distance... Lots of New Yorkers on business prefered Paris back then, it was much cheaper, even to do business with the Brits, meeting at a great old inexpensive restaurant one of us would know... Or meeting new British suppliers at the event their Ambassador would usually host around Premiere Vision and the other Parisian textile and support shows...

But if you have to shop I'm encouraging investing in Luxe: Sorry, but to stay in style when time's get tough, you will need to be deciplined, shopping carefully and staying within a budget... And resist impulse purchases... instead look around and find a better version from a vintage shop or more up-market shop that use good fabrics...
Years from now you'll thank me, when you have your own collection of of great pieces... and you can pass them on to your kids...

These pics remind me of club kids in NYC back in the day, when I was an early homesteader to the meat-packing district, hanging with Connie and Billy Metz... Billy was an opinionated Queen but with great taste who grew up in Clark NJ, and someone who was always embroiled in a feud with a friend... He lived for a time at The Chelsea Hotel , but after one party could not face the mess back at his room's and never returned to the hotel... Only a week later he was installed in a very small studio which he covered in gray flannel wool to look masculine, which it did except for the large dolls house which he wanted us all to work over the winter... But I soon tired of the irony of the situation, which Billy felt and we fell out... Michael Kors held something in his memory at the Duplex but sent regrets explaining I was up in Westchester hobbling around on crutches after my first knee break... When actual the reason being that I always associated that bar with show tunes which I'v never gotten...

The other night felt like the summer of ’88 in the East Village, back when for the first time I recall the trendsetter’s going to blk on mass on the streets. I see it’s time to go Back to Black… as retailers pile high t-shirts on special promotions...

Back then when out-of-town fashion execs visited New York and shopped at Barneys downtown, they would ask “why so much black?” and the answer was, because it looks cool and it sells!

Quickly all retailers jumped on that bandwagon, mainly it seemed to reduce overhead following the trend… As they always have to, because major retailers are public companies and cannot be innovative. They are always driven by the bottom line...

While there are many within these businesses that love fashion and the artistry of the unusual, they are also professionals responsible for delivering profitable performance in their categories. This Requires them not to take risks, as we all anticipate the next financial jolt… so that they’ll survive to fight another day…

SHOUT OUT TO: Aspiring-Fashion-Designers Take heart, we are on the cusp... It could soon be your turn, Get ready, no more dreaming and start improving you practical skills. Clear the kitchen floor, find your old French Curve get out that sewing machine and get to work...At least Start sketching... I really liked her because she was a funny, tough woman... Although never actually confirmed it, seems her name was Esmeralda... She reminded me of many South American women I have known, especially women with lots of sisters, who all talk to each other about you behind your back,

I think this is the perfect look for a Friday; comfortable while professional for work and can easily take you to evening drinks or dinner...

Although, I do not usually like to photograph big prints, the colours are so well done! It would be so easy to match anything you have with this dress and with a change of jacket and shoes, you would have a completely new look... I wonder who made it?
